This work represents two movements that can happen at the same time: the fall, and the return to the origin.
Sofía represents the human being — the one who moves away from her origin and immerses herself in matter and individual experience, yet still carries within her something that never ceased to belong to the Whole: the divine spark.
That is why there is no definitive direction in the painting. Sofía may be falling or returning. Perhaps she is doing both at the same time.
As above, so below; as below, so above. What happens on one plane is reflected on the other. The outer finds its correspondence in the inner; matter reflects spirit, and spirit manifests through matter.
The way we pass through and transcend this reality also depends on our own perception and consciousness. What we experience on one plane finds its reflection on the other, and what we transform within ourselves also changes the reality we are able to perceive.
And so, falling and returning may not be opposite movements, but parts of the same experience.
Perhaps falling is also a way of returning.
